This pandemic stuff is really dragging on and I’ve noticed it’s taken a toll on me. The things that used to bring me joy now feel like I’m climbing Mt Everest.

I’m finding it hard to sit down to read a book and I feel anxious about starting a new TV series. Am I afraid to emotionally invest in something new or am I finding it too hard to sit still long enough to engage deeply? Maybe a bit of both?

Is anyone else feeling like this?

When I stop reading my writing stops flowing. I struggle to write sentences, connect paragraphs and I stop making any progress on my new story without the inspiring words of other writers.

I decided to download Audible and BorrowBox which are audiobook apps. Audible is a subscription based app but Borrowbox is free and is linked to your local library.

I've always enjoyed listening to stories. When I was younger I didn’t actually read the Harry Potter series, I listened to them. I would borrow them from the library, put them in my CD player and listen to the soothing tones of Stephen Fry. I loved listening to Harry Potter because Stephen Fry would do fantastic voices for characters like Hagrid, Dumbledore and Hermione. It helped build my vocabulary and get through novels faster than if I was reading independently.

Stories really come alive while you’re listening to them. I put on audiobooks while I potter around the house, make dinner or listen while I’m on a walk.

When I am listening to an audiobook I am completely transported into the world of the story and a book that takes nine hours to listen to seems to go by in no time at all.

Hopefully I’ll be feeling inspired and re-energised in no time and be back creating soon.

Have you listened to an audiobook before? Which ones would you recommend?

If you haven’t, give one of the free versions a try before you commit to a payment service. Frances xx
